Configuration and Evaluation of Multi-CQF Shapers in IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN)

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a task group of the IEEE 802.1 standardization working (WG) developing TSN communication standards. “toolbox” many standards to provide support for enabling separation critical and non-critical traffic, timeliness dependability, i.e., reliability, fault-tolerance, security, traffic. In this paper we focus on Cyclic Queuing Forwarding (CQF) traffic shapers, such as original CQF, Cycle Specified (CSQF) an extension those, so-called Multi-CQF shaper. We define formally problem configuring CQF-based networks. have developed Constraint Programming (CP) formulation Multi-CQF, well Simulated Annealing (SA)-based metaheuristic solution. These solutions can also obtain results CQF CSQF, which be seen special case Multi-CQF. The configuration NP-hard. evaluate our several test cases scenarios. CP find optimal small sizes but does not scale realistic cases. However, SA able handle large good quality solutions, making it suitable both design-time runtime network configuration. present comprehensive evaluation comparing variants (CQF, Multi-CQF) industrial use cases, contrast them Time Aware Shaper (TAS, 802.1Qbv), discuss their advantages disadvantages.
